Who We are?

The Source of the Nile Union of Persons with Albinism (SNUPA) is a member-based organization based in Jinja City, Uganda, dedicated to promoting and protecting the rights, dignity, and well-being of persons with albinism. Founded by persons with albinism from the Busoga sub-region with support from leaders of persons with disabilities,

SNUPA was established to provide a unified voice advocating for equal opportunities, access to healthcare, education, social inclusion, and protection from stigma and discrimination.

The organization works closely with communities, government institutions, and development partners to improve the quality of life for persons with albinism across Uganda.

SNUPA implements a wide range of programs focused on awareness raising, health services, education support, advocacy, and economic empowerment. Its key activities include organizing International Albinism Awareness Day celebrations, conducting media campaigns, providing skin cancer prevention services, distributing sunscreen lotions and protective materials, supporting eye care services, and carrying out teacher sensitization programs to promote inclusive education.

Activities

With a membership of over 1,034 people and 13 district clusters, SNUPA continues to strengthen its leadership and community impact through partnerships with organizations such as;
National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda (NUDIPU), Africa Albinism Alliance, and international development partners.

SNUPA remains committed to building an inclusive society where persons with albinism can live free from discrimination and fully participate in social, economic, and community life.
